Garbage Dump Becomes a PowerPlant!

Hey guys, I just wanted to share some interesting facts I saw in the news yesterday. I have never seen or heard anything like this before, and it's really interesting!
There's about 1,200 metric tons of garbage dumped everyday in one of the biggest garbage land sites in Philippines. There's so much garbage there now, you could fill up about 4 football stadiums!
So basically what their doing is, is that their taking the methane gas that the garbage gives off, and their converting it into electricity. So the garbage is basically another source of electricity now, and since their's so much garbage, there's much more electricity generated!
I'm NOT saying make more garbage, I'm just saying that it's a really nice idea to turn something bad (garbage) into something we need now, which is electricity. So, if you have any creative ideas or any way to help save our planet in a unique way like what the Philippines are doing, leave a comment or click on the Email Me button on the side bar.

That huge mountain your seeing right there is all garbage, not even 1% land.

Mall Aquarium! (Dubai)

Hey guys!
A few days ago, I was in the Dubai mall, (which by the way you need to go to, it's awesome!!), and I walked by a huge tank. Not a huge tank, a HUMONGOUS tank! It was the biggest aquarium I have ever seen! (51 X 20 X 11 to be exact). Some of the species I saw in the tank was:
-Unicorn Fish
-Water Rats
-Sting Rays
-Giant Spider Crabs
-Leopard sharks

and like, 20 more species!

I will upload a lot of pictures I took in the Dubai mall, did you know the aquarium also received a guiness world record for the World's largest Acrylic Panel? But when I was there, I was thinking of the unlucky specimen of the water that get killed or affected by pollution in the water from factories, and garbage from the people near beaches, etc. Every single creature in that tank was really something special to see, and creatures like that are dying everyday because of us. The tank is really something to behold, here are just a couple of snaps, I will upload a lot more on a seperate picasa album, so stay tuned and make sure to follow me on Twitter:

An Eco-Project!

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted an update to this blog in a long time. I'm going to make a promise. New post, every week. How does that sound?
Ok, back to the topic, my church, St.Andrew's, has an interesting problem. Everyday after the service ends, the congregation goes to the back of the church for coffee and snacks, which is fine, except for 1 thing. Our church uses Styrofoam cups.

These cups look ok, but mother nature hates them! They are NOT recyclable, and they are definitely NOT bio-degradable, which means it will not break down into the soil for worms and other insects to eat. So basically, it's plastic, in another form. So I, along with some others, have decided to do a little project. Count how many cups the church uses in 1 Sunday, and then multiply them into 4 Sundays (1 month) and then see how many cups we actually use every month and every Sunday. Think of this. If we use glass, we can re-use it how many ever times we want, and we don't have to keep buying new cups every Sunday. So we save money, and the environment. What projects can you do like this to keep this world green?
Will update on more news on this project, bye for now!

Oh, and happy late Thanksgiving to all my American readers out there, hope you are Thankful and happy :)

Air Travel

A lot of people have been asking: How is air travel bad? I can't see any air pollution!
Well, actually, there are a lot of pollutants coming out of planes from the engines. The pollution coming out of planes are so, oh, ever so much more than cars and other public transport! Just imagine this. There are about 6,000 commercial planes flying daily. All those planes are dumping more pollutants in the atmosphere. In other words, planes are one of the biggest contributors of global warming. They burn the most fossil fuels on a daily basis. So try and reduce travel with machines and try and travel more with foot or cycle as much as you can! If you do, imagine how much your helping the world!
