How Hurricanes Are Formed!

Hey guys!

      I'm sure most of you following this blog know about hurricane Irene. It wasn't as bad as hurricane Katrina, but it certainly did do a lot of  damage, tearing up trees, even causing a few deaths. A lot of you might be wondering, how are hurricane formed?

      Basically, hurricanes are formed when warm moist air from the ocean start rising up from the water to the sky, leaving less air near the water, thus creating a low air pressure gradient near the water surface. The air cools as it rises, and it can't hold all the moisture it contains. The water then condenses out of the air, which is a natural way for water to produce heat. That heat fuels the winds that start to pick up to faster and faster speeds, feeding of more warm moist air to go even faster. That is what triggers and starts hurricanes, but as soon as it comes to a point where it reaches cold water areas or land, the hurricane starts losing the wind speed because of the lack of the warm air.

Fun Fact: For a hurricane to be official, it needs to have the wind speed of 119 km/h (74 miles an hour)

Earthquake!

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted here in a while, I just wanted to share some important breaking news.

An earthquake struck Virginia (Washington D.C) with a 5.8 magnitude measured by the Richter scale. The quake was felt across the East coast, as far as places such as New England . Places like the White House and the Pentagon were evacuated because of precautionary measures. What was strange was that earthquakes with that magnitude don't usually happen in places in the East. The last known terror to hit Virginia happened more than a 100 years ago.

The good news is that no damage was reported, atleast on the Canadian side, so that was a relief. Hope you readers out there are in good health, and I will update my blog as soon as I can. Thanks guys!

Ways To Keep Your Garage Clean!

          Hey guys, I just wanted to share some ways to keep your garage clean. Not only will it help your garage get cleaner if you maybe take time out of your day to read these steps and follow it, it will also help mother nature!

1) Tune your vehicle: If your car or SUV is leaking gas or other liquids like anti-freeze, it will make puddles in your garage, polluting the air around it. This makes it unhealthy for people in the long run if you just keep running a car that leaks fluids, so remember to service your car when it's required!

2) Get a push mower: Using a gas powered lawn mower uses precious resources, as against the push mower, which gives you more exercise and it doesn't use any natural resources. Interesting fact, running a 10 year old gas powered lawn mower emits as much pollution as running a new car for 320 kilometres.

3) Maintain your garden without chemicals: Instead of using pesticides, use natural compost. Using garlic or cooking oil is a good compost in itself, and it is bio-degradable, so it's a win win situation for keeping your soil fertile, getting rid of your pests, and helping your plants stay healthy.

Animal Of The Week (4)

Copper Shark


Fact File:
Known also as bronze whalers. They are found mostly around offshore waters alongside continental margins. Sometimes though, they move to coastal bays where they eat fish within the surf zone. This obviously brings them into contact with humans (we're not very happy to see it when they look hungry!) and attacks have been reported. There were no deaths reported, but this shark is considered to be one of the most aggressive, largest and dangerous to humans.

Length: Over 3M (10 ft)
Weight: Up to 300 kg (66olb)
Where it's located: Mostly found in warmer waters in the Indo-Pacific, Atlantic and Mediterranean.

Spring Is Here!

It's finally spring time! The dreadful, cold, and uncomfortable weather of the winter season is finally behind us. The trees are finally blooming, the birds are chirping, and insects and animals are coming out! The only thing I don't like about spring are the bee's though...

Nature is really beautiful, there's nothing like mother nature! There are a lot of things that people take for granted, but I think that nature is the one thing that people really never take notice about. Littering, squashing insects, people do a lot of things that they don't think are going to affect them in any way. But in the long run, it just might! So remember, enjoy nature, and enjoy spring! Expect more posts soon!

Japan Disaster...

I'm sure as most of you heard, Japan has just been hit by the worst set of disasters. Let me break down everything for you guys:

1) An 8.9 magnitude earthquake!
2) A huge tsunami struck right after the devastating earthquake, demolishing in it's path.
3) A volcano, that's been dormant for 100's of years erupted recently, again causing flight delays, cancellations and a lot more problems.
4) Nuclear reactors that have been damaged by the earthquake and the tsunami are now malfunctioning, causing nuclear emission to slip out. This harms humans within it's radius, and the reactor that everyone is worried about is just about 100 kilometres from Tokyo.

Japan is one the many places that are in the Ring Of Fire.


The places that are in the ring of fire are the most prone to earthquakes and tsunamis because that's where the tectonic plates are the most active. To read about the tectonic plates, click here:

A very simple definition of the tectonic plates: whenever the tectonic plates hit or rub against each other, it creates a huge amount of friction, and that causes earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. Japan is right over some of the most active tectonic plates, so naturally the population in Japan are very alert, their the most advanced with the whole 'Earthquake' thing. Everyone in Japan are taught what to do if an Earthquake occurs. But this earthquake was so sudden, and so powerful, it razed Tokyo before people could really do anything about it, and just when everyone thought the worst was over, the earthquake actually caused a tsunami, that swept away what was left of Tokyo. There was a lot of damage, many lives lost and people left homeless. Now, the most recent news is that a volcano erupted right next to Tokyo, emitting so much ash the sky is nearly pitch black. That causes not only human health related problems, but also delayed and cancelled flights. So many problems in Japan in such a short time, it's been crazy for them! But countries are doing whatever they can to help, the U.S, Russia, India, etc. have been sending in rescue teams to Tokyo, assisting the Japanese in anyway that they can.

Remember to pray for these people. It really makes you think how small your problems really are. I mean, I was complaining Friday that my toaster wasn't working and how I never had a good breakfast, and then I turn on the news channel and I see the state Japan is in. That really make me think how small my really are, so remember to always count your blessings and pray for all those affected by these set of tragedies!

Conservation Plans

Hello viewers, if you are seeing this, you are most probably on my blog! Thanks for reading!

        Okay, now for some seriousness. There are a lot of things that we can do to save energy, or just saving the Earth in general. Ontario (a province or state in Canada) is doing a lot to save our priceless energy which we use everyday. Here is an interesting statistic that I found in an article: "Ontario has shut down 8 coal units so far and plans to shut down all remaining units by 2014". To keep our lights on at night, Ontario has started upgrading our old power plants and making them more eco-friendly, but in the process making it produce more than twice the energy it did before. That means shutting down coal plants that cause air pollution and moving to much cleaner sources of electricity. (More efficient energy also means you don't need to pay as much as you did for the coal plants!)

       That is what Ontario is doing. So what can you and/or your community do? After all, everything starts with an idea, and who knows, you might have an idea that might do the world a lot of good!
